To mark our 75th anniversary, WRVS have relaunched as Royal Voluntary Service. Along with a new name, we also have a new logo, and a new slogan: ‘together for older people’ Research shows that the name WRVS (which stood for Women’s Royal Voluntary Service) did not reflect what we do, and hindered new people understanding and feeling inspired by our work. ‘Royal Voluntary Service’ is more easily understood; it conveys a sense of our history and belief in the power of volunteering, as one of the largest volunteer organisations in Britain It is also more inclusive, showing that we are here for men as well as women.
‘Older people tell us there are five key conditions that need to be in place to live well:
- Respect for who I am
- I can get the help I want
- I feel in control
- I feel that I belong
- I have people I can trust’
