TRAINING SESSION: Volunteers: Managing, Motivating and the Law

Thursday 19th September

Volunteers are an increasingly valuable resource. Are you getting the best from your volunteers, and are you aware of your legal duties towards them? This session will cover how to manage your volunteers effectively, how to motivate and to reduce turnover, best practice regarding documentation and training, and your legal duties, including maintaining a distinction between volunteers and employees, and whether volunteers have any employment, including discrimination, rights.

The session will include practical case studies, and an opportunity to ask the trainer about live employment and HR issues of concern.

You will learn about:

  • How to motivate and retain your volunteers
  • Best practice in recruiting and managing volunteers
  • What documentation, policies and training should be provided
  • The legal status of your volunteer workers, and their legal rights
  • The importance of distinguishing and treating differently volunteer workers and employees
  • Whether volunteers have any employment rights

Lunch and light refreshments will be included in the package. The training will be delivered by Elizabeth Scholes – Employment Consultant. After the training, detailed notes will be given out to all delegates. 

Terms and conditions:

 The cost of the training will be £40 per delegate (inclusive of VAT). The cost of additional places from the same organisation will cost £30 thereafter.

  • There is a maximum of 20 places for the training and places will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis
  • We will need to have received payment no later than Thursday 5th September either by cheque or BACS transfer. Further details of payment will be sent out once your place has been confirmed by email.
  • Please note that the training is dependant on the minimum number of 18 delegates being met and payment being received for all delegates no later than Thursday 5th September. If we haven’t reached the minimum number or we haven’t received all payments by this date, the course will be cancelled and payments already submitted will be reimbursed.
  • Late cancellations, after Thursday 5th September, will not be reimbursed.
