Event title: Tinnitus Support Group Meeting Shrewsbury
Venue: The Lantern, Meadow Farm Drive, Shrewsbury SY1 4QR
Telephone: 01743 364 644
The first support group meeting in Shrewsbury enjoyed a strong turnout. Around 40 people attended and extra chairs, tea and biscuits had to be drafted in! Participants commented that the group “removes isolation.” They also found it “comforting to know that it is not just me who has this problem and that there is help at hand.”
One in ten people in the UK have some degree of tinnitus, the condition where you hear noises, such as ringing, hissing or humming, from inside your body rather than from an outside source. The condition can impact upon everyday life, affecting concentration or causing sleeping problems or depression.
People with tinnitus, or the rarer condition hyperacusis, are invited to join the support groups to share their own experiences and find out more about different ways of managing the conditions. Hyperacusis is characterised by an extreme sensitivity to everyday sounds. We hope to see you at this meeting as participants will have the opportunity to shape the group’s agenda and development.
