Raise Council Tax, Cut Services? What do you think?

There is still time to have your say, but be quick, this consultation closes Sunday 7th February 2016!

To give you views on possible levels of council tax and how the Council should make £30 million of cuts.

Should we “freeze” council tax and implement the 2% additional charge the Government has assumed councils will add to the Council Tax for adult social care services? Or raise council tax to help lessen cuts to key services by an additional 1.2% or 1.9%?

The budget proposals also include £30m of service cuts such as the Council no longer running most of its libraries and community centres. More than 1,500 people have have already told us what they think.

We have some very hard times ahead with no choice but to cut services as Government grant continues to be cut. This is after £80m of cuts we have made since 2010.

The consultation seeks views on a number of cuts including:

  •  Closing six council-run libraries
  •  No council-run youth clubs
  •  No council-run community centres
  •  No council-run markets
  •  Less council-run children’s centres
