Anyone interested in Cricket?

Do you have a disability? Are you interested in cricket? Then come along to the only Disabled Cricket Club in Telford! St George’s cricket training is held on a Saturday at Telford College of Arts and Technology, Haybridge Rd, Wellington, Telford TF1 2NP from 9.30 am till 11 am.

Come and have a go! We cater for any age boy girl, man or woman. We play in a local indoor league and are members of the CFPD (Cricket Foundation for People with Disabilities) association

Telford Eagles Sitting Volleyball Team

Paul Twitchell, Head Coach of the recently formed Telford Eagles Sitting Volleyball Team is looking to invite as many disabled groups in Shropshire to try their exciting and fully inclusive sport in a fun and safe local club environment.

The Eagles train on a Thursday evening 6 pm – 7 pm at Telford College Arts and Technology College,  Wellington in the S Block.

As the Club Welfare Officer Paul said “I can offer assurance of a positive experience for players of all abilities and disabilities. I only ask for people who require specialist care to be accompanied for safety reasons”.

Event description: The England Athletics Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running Workshop has been developed in conjunction with British Blind Sport. The workshop provides runners, leaders, coaches and volunteers with information and experience about supporting visually impaired people to run. The workshop covers a number of areas including;

  • types of visual impairment (VI),
  • top tips and safety for guide running and
  • how to make running sessions VI friendly.

The two-hour workshop also includes a practical element where attendees get the chance to experience guiding and being guided by each other.

The Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running workshop enables Leaders, Coaches and Volunteers to attract and support more visually impaired (VI) people to athletics and running. It includes information on:

  • Types of visual impairment and common eye conditions
  • Appropriate behaviour and terminology
  • Making sessions VI friendly
  • Guide running top tips and safety
  • Guide running practical sessions
  • Further support and resources

Eligibility: Must be 18 years or over.

Price: £20 for England Athletics affiliated club members or £30

Event description: England Talent Day is an integral part of The FA’s Disability Talent Pathway, identifying young players aged between 12-16 years old and is one of several days which will be taking place. The programme is quality assured to support the development of young talented disabled players, offering a clear pathway.

The pathway aims to recruit players that can progress to FA Regional Talent Centres, FA Emerging Talent Programme, England Development Squads and England Elite Squads as highlighted within The FA’s Disability Player Pathway and as shown below:

  • Learning Disability
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Partially Sighted
  • Blind
  • Deaf (Male and Female)
  • Amputee

Inclusive Activity Roadshow Programme of Events-19th to 25th September

There has been an amazing response from clubs & groups to host events for the first Inclusive Activity Roadshow. This coincides with the end of RIO 2016 Paralympic Games. With over 70 different sessions taking place, click on the links below to find out what is available in your area.Many of the sessions are FREE. Some are “one off events” but many are ongoing. Take this grand opportunity to find a new activity near you, or even to find a new interest.

Shropshire Council have produced this Draft Sports Facilities Strategy for 2016-2037  https://shropshire-disability.net/draft-sports-facilities-strategy-2016-2037/  This may be the right time for you to tell Shropshire Council if their proposals are the right way forward.
