Supporting People funds the provision of housing-related support, to help prevent the kinds of problems that can often lead to people losing their home or needing to go to hospital or into care. It can also help people leaving care, hospital or prison to make the successful move to independent living.

How can Supporting People help?  People who use Supporting People have been helped to:

  • gain and keep their independence
  • stay out of hospital or come home earlier
  • maximise their income
  • take part in social activities and be part of their community (such as education, work, training)
  • reduce or stop alcohol or drug use
  • stop committing crime

Who is entitled to services funded by Supporting People?

Anyone over the age of 16 who is:

  • Assessed as being in need of housing-related support
  • Entitled to a means-tested benefit such as Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit (for services over 2 years)
  • Belonging to a vulnerable group
