Sight Loss Opportunity Groups (SLOGs) Activities for August

All sessions are FREE unless otherwise stated.

Oswestry Group meets on Wednesday 2nd August from 10 am to 12 noon at Oswestry Library Arthur Street, Oswestry SY11 1JN

We will be joined by Severn Trent Water for a talk after which we hope to have a game of Boccia.

Ludlow Group meets on Monday 14th August at 10.30 am -12.30 pm at St Peters Church, Henley Road, Ludlow SY8 1QZ

We will be having a talk and demonstration from Ludlow Plant Centre.

Shrewsbury Cycling at Sundorne Sports Village, -Wednesday 16th August from 10.30 am to 11.30 am

We will be having our cycling session at Sundorne Sports Village, Sundorne, Shrewsbury SY1 4RQ


Shrewsbury group meets on Monday 21st August (note this meeting is one week earlier due to the Bank Holiday)  Roy Fletcher Centre, 12-17 Cross Hill, Shrewsbury SY1 1JE

We will have an outing to Love Plants. Further details will follow to Shrewsbury group members.

Rachel Whitney (Development Officer -Sight and Hearing Loss), lead of SLOG’s   be leaving Shropshire RCC on 23rd August to get married and move to Leicestershire but hopes to bring her replacement to all of the SLOG groups in August so that they can meet you all.

Ludlow patients who are seen at Hereford hospital – The Low Vision clinic at Shrewsbury hospital is hoping to set up a new clinic in Ludlow in order to issue magnifiers free of charge for people who live in Shropshire but are seen by a Consultant at Hereford hospital. This is done via a referral from the Eye Care Liaison Officer from Hereford hospital, Jenni Moorhouse. If you have one of these letters please ring Shrewsbury Low Vision appointments on 01743 261000 Ext 3324 (NOT the appointments number on the letter)!


If you live in Shropshire & see a Consultant in Hereford but haven’t been referred for a magnifier please let Rachel know and she will can look into the situation for you. (If you live in Herefordshire and see the Hereford Optometrist you already have access to receiving a magnifier free of charge).
