Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to achieving equality throughout all areas of the organisation and service delivery.
This is the first Disability Scheme that it has produced, and the Service is committed to improving assistance to those people, who have a disability and to potential and current employees.
The Service has a legal duty to promote disability equality under the Disability Discrimination Act 2010, under both the general and specific duties. The Service has always appreciated the benefits of valuing a diverse workforce and the introduction of this Scheme will only continue to enhance this.
The Service strives to achieve equality of opportunity for all and will continue to push forward the diversity agenda and change the culture of the Service so that it reflects this commitment. Good relations have already been forged with community groups and this process will continue in the future; this has helped when devising new initiatives to support the recruitment and retention of employees.
This Scheme will ensure that every employee is aware of their responsibilities and that a clear and consistent approach to obligations is followed.
