Event description: We look forward to welcoming our members & guests to our first meeting for 2017. Not only will you hear about what we have been doing since our meeting in December, you will hear from two very interesting guest speakers & the opportunity to find out about an interesting conservation programme.

Guest Speakers:

Jo Allmond and her daughter Jess will give us an update on their journey since the presented at our meeting in March 2015. (Jess The Goth Fairy) Jo and Jess have written books about Jess, the Goth Fairy. These are books which describe what it is like to be different, and specifically targets a younger audience.  Their next book about dementia will be out this year.

David Sandbach former chief executive of Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital will be talking on developments in the Digital Health domain as these developments affect people with disabilities. Currently, the computer program Skype, which allows free video calls using a computer webcam is being used. A patient could be sitting in their home with a nurse and a stethoscope. Using Skype, a doctor anywhere in the world can listen to the person’s heart and
decide what action to take.

We welcome ‘Caring for God’s Acre’, a national conservation charity focusing on the conservation of burial grounds and engaging people in these sites.  They have taken up the opportunity to have a stand at our meeting giving you the opportunity to see what they do. They have a group of volunteers that goes out every week undertaking practical conservation work in burial grounds across Shropshire. This includes pruning, scything, grass raking, dry stone walling and clearing brambles etc. and is open to all.  They are called the Churchyard Task Team.

We appreciate “Caring for God’s Acre taking the opportunity to have a stand to promote their work as by doing so, it helps with our meeting costs.

Raffle: We will hold our regular quarterly raffle and have SDN wrist bands for sale.

Email: secretary@shropshire-disability.net (Secretary) or call or text SDN mobile 07780 852 229 for more information.

We have Sign Language Interpreters (BSL) at all our meetings.
