Shrewsbury Mencap is a small local charity based at Albert Road, Shrewsbury. We support people with learning disability and their families by providing evening social activities and a day centre service on a Wednesday.
We are an independent charity that works with local families to establish our priorities but we are affiliated to National Mencap which gives us a link to the information, advice and support offered by such a national organisation. We are governed by local people and raise our own funds to deliver projects for people in and around Shrewsbury.
We operate on a completely voluntary basis with an operating committee of a dozen or so people and many other volunteers that run the evening activities.
Activities are provided through the many evening social clubs held at the Mencap Centre together with outings, discos, sport, advice and more. They also run a day club at the Shrewsbury Quaker Meeting House on Wednesdays, from 10 am to 3 pm. For details of this day club please telephone 07807 49951.
