This feature debut by British shorts director Jane Gull boasts a superb central performance by Steven Brandon, an actor with Down’s syndrome.
He portrays Luke, a fiercely independent young man with the condition. Isolated and thrust into a daunting new environment after sudden bereavement, he finds unexpected support from his new carer, Eve and troubled local heir Pete. But whilst starting valuable new friendships and broadening his horizons, Luke also verges dangerously close to disaster as long-buried secrets are revealed. My Feral Heart is a sensitive, beautifully realised and very empathetic character study, with distinctive cinematography and an evocative score.
