Event title: Pal Joey (PG)-A Life More Ordinary
Venue: Ludlow Assembly Rooms, 1 Mill Street, Ludlow SY8 1AZ
Name: Ludlow Assembly Rooms
Telephone: 01584 878141
Event description: In 2016 Ludlow Assembly Rooms became one of six venues nationally to take part in the ‘A Life More Ordinary’ project, spearheaded by The Dukes Theatre in Lancaster to join with their aim and ethos to ‘give people living with dementia and memory loss more choice, more control and greater access to leisure and cultural opportunities’
The ‘A Life More Ordinary’ film screenings take place in a relaxed environment enabling both carers and those living with dementia the space to connect with others and feel comfortable. Sound and lighting levels are adjusted accordingly and people are welcome to move around and come and go as they please. There is an interval with tea and cake during each screening.
Since 2017 we have been able to offer two more activities as part of the A Life More Ordinary programme; ‘Moving to the Rhythm’ and ‘Songs for You’. Delivered by specially trained music and movement experts, these activities again offer a space for reminiscence, socialising and, most importantly, having fun.
Staff and volunteers at these events have taken part in a dementia awareness session and we are a proud member of the Dementia Action Alliance – dedicating ourselves to take actions to provide and maintain a dementia-friendly organisation and venue for the long-term.
About today’s film: Joey Evans (Frank Sinatra), a nightclub singer, must choose between a naive chorus girl (Kim Novak) who’s stirred real feelings in him and a former flame Vera Prentice-Simpson (Rita Hayworth) who can help his career.
The film starts at 2 pm and costs £5 entry (Carers go FREE).
