With just days to go until our meeting on Thursday 13th March we are looking forward to meeting at Oswestry again. You gave us a great welcome for our first visit last year so this year we have booked the larger room. Can we fill that one this time? SY11 2AY Please make it a full house again as we welcome our Speakers from Dementia Friends and Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Dementia Friends is a National initiative that is being run by the Alzheimer’s Society & funded by the government. The aim is to improve people’s understanding of dementia and its effects on individuals, families, friends, & communities. Together we can create dementia friendly communities. It is hoped by 2015 to create a network of a million Dementia Friends in England. To do this, SDN feels it would be good to have a presentation to increase awareness & understanding of how we can all make a difference.
Being an organisation for people with all kinds of disabilities as well as Carers, we try to bring a varied programme to the Members Meetings.So our other speaker Lin Stapely is bringing along her Guide Dog “Woody” She is going to tell us about the work of Guide Dogs, the training dogs undertake enabling them to help their owner in many aspects of life each day. Lin will tell us her story.
So come along on Thursday 13th March 2014 10.30 am for an 11 am start. Not only will you be hearing from our guest speakers but you will also be able to hear about our work during the last 3 months. You can find out more details by looking under “Events” or “About Us” Tab on this website
The Management Committee are always trying to make our meetings better for you. In the past we have borrowed projectors for our meetings but have realised we need our own equipment that we are familiar with for use at not only our Quarterly Membersmeetings but when we are out and about giving presentations at other events. So we have purchased our own projector. We researched what we believe is the projector to bring quality pictures and sound to our meetings. The projector cost about £534 but as we puchased via our www.givingabit.com we will get money back on our purchase! This may seem a lot of money but we feel it is important that we had a piece of equipment that can be linked into our sound equipment as well as being used with or without a computer but also with various other forms of software. If you like “we have an all singing, all dancing projector” We now have the facility to project the Agenda and various documents at our meetings so this will cut down on printing costs.
Having this equipment means SDN can do so much more and you have the first opportunity to see it in action on 13th March. Thank you to those who support our fundraising efforts by attending events, buying raffle tickets at our Quarterly Members Meetings or by contributing towards refreshments. It is through the generosity of our supporters we can do this to help all our members.
