Over 1200 school children, more than 25 local craft groups and in excess of 500 individuals and local artists are coming together to decorate over 50 shops and buildings around the town from Friday 12 October as part of Oswestry Makes 2018.
Displays will include textile, wire, wooden and metal flowers all made locally. ‘We have been overwhelmed with flowers of all shapes, sizes and textures’ say the Oswestry Makes Team, ‘we do live in a town that has so much talent and so many opportunities to learn how to make things too’.
The team is also delighted to be hosting the stunning ‘Whittington Together’ poppy cascade of over 3,500 knitted & crocheted poppies just in case you missed it at Whittington Castle over the bank holiday in August. You can see the cascade and also the amazing Wonderwool Wales Festival touring ‘curtain of poppies’ at Oswestry Museum from 8th of October. There will also be ‘curtains’ at Oswestry Library and Qube.
Oswestry Library and Qube will be hosting exhibitions of locally made flower art and you can come and chat to Artist in Residence, Ticky Lowe. Ticky will be working on her ‘Floral deconstruction’ from 8 October and also running free workshops.
If you are feeling inspired by all that you see and want to learn how to make your own flowers come along to the free ‘Crafts for Wellbeing’ event at Oswestry Library on Saturday 13 October 11 am-3 pm where there will be everything from crochet to Zentangle on offer.
