Oswestry Community Games returns to Cae Glas Park

Church Street Oswestry Shropshire SY11 2SZ

Sunday 21st September 12pm – 4pm

Oswestry Community Games is less than one month away, it promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s games which drew in around 500 people. This family fun event is FREE for everyone to attend and take part in “have a go sessions” and see the amazing activities that are on offer in Oswestry all year round for all ages and abilities. Everyone who takes part and enjoys one of the have a go activities will be able to learn how they can continue to do so after the games. http://www.communitygames.org.uk/

Clive Knight – Games Organiser said “This year’s Games preparation has gone well, and we have more and diverse activities taking place with many more local organisations including schools now on board. I am particularly delighted to welcome Derwen College and North Shropshire Special Olympics, and Cricket Federation for Disabilities, to make the event truly inclusive. Having the support of Oswestry and District Arts Association and Fusion Arts will increase the cultural side, and broaden the overall appeal. I am also delighted to welcome Nick Beighton – Paralympic 2012 rower from Shrewsbury- as our guest of honor.

Nick was serving in Afghanistan in 2009 when he was severely injured when on night duty, losing both legs above the knee, and broke his pelvis & requiring more than 36 pints of blood to save his life. He started rowing because he wanted to do something completely new and to prove to himself that he could achieve.

Many of us at SDN will remember Nick in the Paralymics 2012 but also met him at our meeting in December last year when he gave an awe inspiring presentation to our members. Latterly he was one of a team of 4 to take part in Beeline Britain https://shropshire-disability.net/a-challenge-with-a-huge-difference/
