Fund raising is a major activity for SDN. We are grateful to all who support us at events, who generously give donations to our work and to those who contribute their time free of charge. Fund raising takes a lot of time and commitment so we are constantly on the lookout for special people who can support this role within the organisation.
SDN has a Fundraising Sub Group that meets bi-monthly and arranges a number events over the year including Pub Quizzes, Sales, Social Events. We will try to publish amounts of monies raised on both the website and our Newsletter “Your Voice” and inform our members of how money is spent. After listening to our members one item of expenditure this year was a sound system that can be used at meetings and events. This has already proved its worth.
We are always ready to hear new ideas for raising funds; here are some of the things we have done so far:

The Walk and Roll

We did a sponsored walk round the quarry in Shrewsbury -just make sure that you are pushing somebody in a wheelchair! |

An evening of entertainment |
Popular local performers give us some of their time and then entertain paying guests; we have been entertained by Three Men in a Bowtie and Paul & Geoff Ray. |

Pub Quiz |
We held a Pub Quiz at Crown in Abbey Foregate held a Pub Quiz with the proceeds going to SDN – the teams were all from Shrewsbury Deaf Club (a Deaf Pub Quiz??) we think it was a first, but it needn’t be the last. 2015 hoping to have more quizzes at various locations. |

Information Stands with Cash Collections |
SDN volunteers man our Information Stands to raise awareness of SDN and we have collecting buckets in the hopes that people will donate to for the network. We are always grateful to our hosts who have included Radbrook & Morrisons Supermarkets and the Pride Hill Shopping Centre as well as Telford Shopping Centre. In 2015-2016 we hope to reach other towns in Shropshire. Each quarter we raise awareness at PRH (Princess Royal Hospital) & we sell items hand made by our members. |

Disability Challenge |
This is one of our biggest events. Teams from across Shropshire come together to carry (yes carry) people with varying degrees of disability over the Long Mynd and they get sponsored for their efforts. We had hoped to have our Bi Annual Disability Challenge in 2014 but this in now on hold until 2016 as we continue to work on the production of a bespoke wheelchair frame that has been designed by one of our members |

1. JustTextGiving We were offered a 3 month FREE trial on JustGiving but we a monthly fee of around £20 this was not viable, however we can take this up again when we have big fundraising activities. You can still donate via JustTextGiving-see how this help us by looking under the Donate tab on this website. 2. givingabit We have Givingabit-on-line shopping that as yet has not been promoted on the website but it has been in “YV” this could be a big income generator. Go to www.givingabit.com and log in to become a Member then when you shop on line at Amazon, Boots, Argos, TalkTalk, John Lewis and many others or purchase a holidays, insurance etc on-line SDN gets a donation at no extra cost to you! Download the “forgetmenotwidget” & when shopping on line you can shop without visiting givingabit! 3. Ebay Shop 2015 we will launch our shop. 4. You can donate to us via Paypal. |
These are just a few ideas but we are always looking for new ones and the people with the energy and commitment to make them happen and to make a difference.
