Easy Read Guide for People with Learning Difficulties-European Referendum

“Should the United Kingdom Remain a Member of the European Union or Leave the European Union” That is a big question that we will be asked to vote on, on Thursday 23rd June!

Mencap recently wrote to us enclosing a number of copies of “Easy Read Guide to voting in the European Union referendum” If you would like a copy or know someone who would like one, please let us know by leaving us a comment here or email admin@shropshire-disability.net or call SDN on 07780 852 229 or click here to download a copy  EU_referendum_final  www.mencap.org.uk/euroreferendum

Mencap in their letter to us wrote “Many of us take voting in local & national elections for granted. However there are 1.4 million people with a learning disability living in the United Kingdom & only around one third of them vote. They may not know they have a right to vote, how to register or how to vote on the day”

We are thankful to Mencap & support them in wanting to change so that people with a learning disability can make their voices heard during the EU Referendum. Likewise we Shropshire Disability Network support them in their journey of engagement in raising awareness in taking us a step closer to a world where people with learning difficulties are listened to, valued  & included.

Mencap have worked with the Electoral Commission to produce the easy read guide to the referendum. It is free of jargon text & includes images to help people through the process of not only registering but also voting on the day. Mencap are also trying to make the debate about the EU Referendum more accessible so that people with learning difficulties can make an informed choice about the way they vote so keep checking www.mencap.org.uk/euroreferendum for the latest information.
