The Children Act 1989 requires all local authorities to keep a voluntary register of disabled children in the area. The aim of the register is to help local areas understand how many disabled children and young people (and those with special educational needs or some additional needs) live in there area and to assist them in planning provision and support.

Shropshire Council have asked an Independent person, Sue North, to review the current register and make some recommendations for the future.

Sue is working with parent carer representatives, (Shropshire’s parent carer forum PACC) disability professionals and other relevant stakeholders, to find out how the current register works and how it is used to support families. Also how this helps the local area to use the information to plan good support and services for children and young people and their families in the future.

Shropshire Council would like to hear the views of parent carers & the Disabled Children’s Register. What you would like for the future?  You can do this by filling in this quick survey monkey questionnaire which should not take more than 10 minutes.
