DiGiT@L DEN -What is it?

DiGiT@L DEN is based at 25 Maesbrook Road, Meole, Shrewsbury, SY3 9NL Contact 01743 730100 www.socialtelecoms.org.uk and www.digitalden.org.uk

The Digital Den provides open access for everyone to go along and use computers and be digitally included. Whether job searching, writing cv’s, accessing the internet or simply looking to boost I.T skills, training , help and support is available. They also offer the facility for you to purchase refurbished computers which are available from £90 (Terms and Conditions apply)

The Digital Den, is fully accessible to people with disabilities. As well as parking outside, there is a push button by the door, which people can use to get assistance when entering the building. There are no steps into the building.

Staff are always willing to help you with using computers etc. Digital Den staff have assured SDN that If they have not got equipment on site that enables you to use their computers, they will source it. They already have some large screens and larger letter keyboards. If you can’t use a mouse due to joint and dexterity problems please tell the staff that you need a track ball or whatever it is that will enable you to use the Den.

Dan, the Manager is eager to help everyone who goes to use the computer suite at the Den. So if you have visual impairment and need a screen reader, please say. Dan said “please do not be afraid to ask, we can’t have everything on-site but we will try to help people by getting the right equipment as this facility is for the whole community to benefit from. We want your members to have a good experience, not only do we help with equipment issues but we can assist with using computers”

SDN says, “Go along, have a go, you may be surprised at what is on offer, then tell us and hopefully you will encourage other members to visit and use these facilities”.

Opening times are Monday to Saturday 9 am to 5 pm but on a Wednesday they stay open until 8 pm. So may be you have wondered about how to get started but not sure how, you don’t want to buy a computer until you have tried it. Then go along to The Digital Den, staff are always on “hand to help” It’s FREE. Or next time you have a problem with your computer and you are waiting repairs, this place enables you to keep in touch by going along to check your emails.

Recently 2 SDN Members took along one of the SDN Management Committee Members to have a look. She said “I never knew this place existed, so this is what you are on about when you mention the Digital Den/” Tucked away on a housing estate next to a Meet Place and a couple of shops, it is ideal.  You can park outside. The premises are fully kitted out with a number of computers but that is not all, as well as getting advice & help, you can also pick up useful information here.
