What we do:
Deafsmart is a Community Interest Company which means that we are a non-profit making organisation with our surplus revenue being channelled into developing our services and providing free support to members of the deaf community.
We are experienced deaf awareness practitioners and trainers having delivered successful courses to organisations within the Public and Private sectors, service organisations and individuals.
We are funded largely by grants from supporting organisations and through the provision of our services to the business and Public sector organisations.
We are here to help organisations who wish to understand and communicate more effectively with the deaf community and in doing so helping to bring equality to deaf and hard of hearing people.
Our organisation was founded in Sep 2010 by Roisin Gray a deaf lady with a passion for communication and championing the rights of deaf and hard of hearing people in our community. We have supported deaf people in the community helping them access services, get employment and dealing with problems in all walks of life.
DeafSmart’s services include:
- deaf awareness training
- outreach support (individual and group outings, respite provision and supervised holidays)
- BSL communication support
- drop in advice centre for the deaf and hard of hearing
