The Friendly Transport Service (aka The Friendly Bus) is a charitable company which has been operating since 2002, providing transport for a rural community in and around the neighbouring towns of Broseley and Much Wenlock in Shropshire. Our management team are Marie (Project Manager), Julie (Co-ordinator) and Kath (Assistant Co-ordinator) who look after the day to day operation from our office in Broseley.  The service is provided by a team of local volunteers, some of whom use their own cars to take people to appointments, etc. Our management committee consists of both volunteers and users of the service.

In an area where other transport services are limited and not everyone has access to a car, we provide transport by car or minibus.  We offer a door to door service which is friendly, comfortable and reliable for people who don’t have alternative means of transport or who have other difficulties in getting out.

We provide transport for local clubs, schools and other non profit-making groups, to meetings and events or out on day trips.

We aim to make getting out and about whether it be to the doctor’s, the shops or social activities possible for everyone.

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to get mobile by exchanging their mobility allowance to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair.

Why Join? When you join the Motability Scheme you get more than just the car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV), scooter or powered wheelchair of your choice, you’ll enjoy all the freedom that comes with a truly worry-free lease.

Who can join? The Eligibility Checker tool at the link below will help you to find out if you may be eligible to apply to join the Scheme.

To be eligible to join the Motability Scheme, you need to receive one of the following mobility allowances and you must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining. Please note that the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through the Scheme.

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
As of 10 April 2019, this allowance is £61.20 per week.
  • Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
As of 08 April 2019, this allowance is £61.20 per week.
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)

Remember, you can choose to spend your higher rate mobility allowance in whatever way you wish. If you only travel short distances, you might want to consider leasing a Motability scooter instead of a car. However, if you only travel occasionally, it might be more cost-effective for you to spend your allowance on other modes of transport such as taxis.
