Arty Party is an arts organisation working from Telford and Shropshire. We provide training and showcase members’ creative expression through a range of art forms.

Learning disabled artists are supported to express their experience of being in the world through a working partnership with skilled person-centred facilitators who navigate the art making journey.

The learning disabled artists harness this process by creating their own art and running their own events.

Arty Party listens to the voice of its members, and uses this voice to help shape the direction of the company. Together we listen, learn, facilitate, create, develop, share and celebrate.

If you would like to become a Member of Arty Party, or find out more about what we do, please contact us on 07825 070 368

Shropshire MHS was established in 1974 and provides a wide range of quality services across the county for the one in four people and their families, who are affected by mental and emotional distress. We help to bridge the gap between being unwell and full independence for the people who use our service. Some people need support in many areas of their lives, whilst others in just a few. Some people need support for long periods of time and others for only a short while.

Our vision is that everyone has the right to live equally with others and to enjoy a good quality of life. Also, that people who use our service are treated with respect, justice and enjoy equality of access to services.

We help to enable people who use our services to play the fullest possible part in their own communities and their own recovery. We work together in partnership with people to make sure that their right to make choices is preserved. We are also striving to reduce the debilitation, alienation, stigma and social isolation experienced by vulnerable people living in rural areas.

Our core service is our Shrewsbury based daily drop in, which runs seven days a week and offers people the chance to relax in a safe, nurturing environment and enjoy taking part in social activities. In addition, we offer a range of groups in Shrewsbury, including Mindfulness for Wellbeing, Reconnect (wellbeing group), Road to Recovery, Women in Mind and Hearing Voices. Our services also extend beyond Shrewsbury to a number of outreach groups held in Whitchurch, Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Market Drayton. These groups operate on a drop in basis and are run by our excellent team of volunteers.

Shropshire MHS operates with a small team of dedicated staff and large team of exceptional volunteers. We have a board of trustees who meet monthly and hold the charity’s activities to account.

Shropshire MHS’s main objective is to empower anyone experiencing a mental health challenge. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental ill-health in Shropshire, making sure that the people in need of support are heard.

Our values and beliefs are reflected in the service we provide, in that we:

  • Make sure the service we provide reflects the needs of the local community;
  • Respect the dignity and rights of everyone that uses our service;
  • Make sure that our services are appropriate, safe and acceptable;
  • Create an environment that is welcoming to everyone, with a zero tolerance to any discriminatory behaviour;
  • Offer choices and promote independence;
  • Raise awareness and educate the public on mental health issues;
  • Value the contribution our staff and volunteers make;
  • Work in partnership with other relevant agencies;
  • Operate within the principles of corporate governance.

Address: Midlands Arts Centre, Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, B12 9QH

About: First opened in 1962, Midlands Arts Centre – also known as MAC – is a pioneering arts complex for everyone. Our mission: to make art an important part of people’s lives.

MAC’s ethos is based on a set of values which inform the whole of its activities. The tensions within the values help to shape the organisation’s work and add an extra, creative spark to its activities. MAC values the following:

  • artistically experimental activities – and ones striving to engage with their audiences;
  • celebrating diversity – and strengthening social cohesion;
  • offering equal opportunities to everyone – and recognising the uniqueness of artistic talent;
  • increasing the accessibility of the arts – and respecting their complexity;
  • giving users and audiences more involvement in, and control over, programming – and introducing them to new challenges and innovations;
  • helping artists to find their own, unique voice – and to forge productive partnerships with other artists and the general public;
  • making the most of the social benefits of the arts – and valuing the pleasure people gain from their own individual artistic expression.#

We work together with Soundabout choirs in the West Midlands.

Soundabout

Website: https://www.soundabout.org.uk/

Email: info@soundabout.org.uk

Telephone: 01235 797474

Address: Soundabout, John Eccles House, Robert Robinson Avenue, Oxford Science Park, Oxford, OX4 4GP

At Soundabout, we believe that everybody deserves to have a voice. Rather than focusing on what people can’t do, we want to emphasize what they can do. We believe that people with severe and profound learning disabilities including autism should have a life full of expression, passion and enjoyment. To enable this to happen we aim to educate, support and empower through both empowering training and supporting those in our community. That’s why we use music to enable people with learning disabilities to express themselves, connect with others, and feel the warmth of music.

Soundabout was launched in 1995 in Oxford with the aim of empowering school staff working with children and young people with special needs to make music interactively with their pupils with severe and complex disabilities. The overwhelming and enthusiastic response to this project by both pupils and school staff suggested that a permanent staff training programme would be welcomed in schools across the UK and in December 1997, Soundabout was officially founded as an independent charity.

Since then, Soundabout has blossomed and is now a national charity that has pioneered the use of music, rhythm and sound to give disabled children and adults a voice, a way to express themselves and be listened to.

Our training programme in schools has continued to expand and develop around the specific needs of staff in SEN Schools and professionals who support people with severe learning disabilities. Training is delivered by our highly skilled Soundabout practitioners. Some of our practitioners also work as special needs teachers in schools and some are Music Therapists. However, all are highly skilled specialist practitioners with a national reputation for delivering unique in-classroom training.

In addition, we offer children, young people and adults along with their families and carers, regular community sessions which encourage absolutely everyone to take part in their own way, in a relaxed and friendly environment. Once again, all of these sessions are lead and developed by our highly skilled music practitioners.

Soundabout has choirs in Oxford, Bristol, Peterborough, Wiltshire and the West Midlands.
