The primary aim of Hands Together Ludlow is to provide aid for the vulnerable in and around the town of Ludlow in Shropshire, recognising that existing charities and statutory agencies are increasingly under pressure themselves due to financial restraints.

We work through three parallel streams of activity:
1. Networking with existing providers,
2. Coordinating volunteers to provide short-term assistance,
3. Establishing projects to meet longer term needs.

The following Charitable Purposes statement summarise the work of Hands Together :
The relief of people in need by reason of youth, old age, ill health, loneliness, dysfunctional relationships, disability or financial hardship, living in Ludlow and the surrounding villages.

A secondary purpose, or method of achieving the primary purpose, could be defined as follows:
• The advancement of community development and the promotion of effective and efficient use of existing charitable resources by building a network of volunteers linking to caring agencies and local businesses in order to fill gaps of provision where they occur.

The Sleep Charity, incorporating The Sleep Council (is our voluntary advisory board) provide advice and support to empower the nation to sleep better. We campaign to improve sleep support and access to high quality information, raise awareness of the value of a good night’s sleep and promote understanding around the complexities of sleep. We want everyone to share our vision that sleep is a vital component of health and wellbeing and that everyone living with sleep issues should have access to effective, consistent, evidence-based support.

Sleep is essential for our health and wellbeing yet it is estimated that 40% of the population suffer with sleep issues and many do not get the support that they need.

We have a wide range of courses on offer for both families and professionals. We have trained NHS staff from leading hopsitals including Evelina Hospital, Great Ormond Street and Sheffield Children’s Hospital. We provide a range of “Sleep Workshops” for parent/carers, professionals and young people.

We aim to:

  • Provide access to high quality information and advice to deal with most sleep issues
  • To ensure everyone understands the value of a good night’s sleep
  • To campaign for improvements to the support available
  • Make a positive difference to the lives of those we work with by campaigning for improvement to the support available
  • Provide accredited training for professionals so they can offer sleep support to the people they work with

NB:  “The Sleep Council’ is our voluntary advisory board. The Advisory Board helps to shape the future of sleep support nationally and plays a vital role around providing advice, challenge and scrutiny on key issues and programmes.

The professionals’ expertise spans across sleep, sport science, nutrition, menopause, mental health, sleep research, primary care, public health, sensory processing, CBTi and medical sleep disorders.

Hopton Rehab & Homing Centre (HRH) was established in July 2017.

About our work:

  • Over the past 4 years, whilst running a separate training organisation in work-based horsecare, Tracy and Lin accumulated a variety of equines that needed extensive rehabilitation; both physically and mentally; for a multitude of reasons.
  • The volume arriving at the centre increased significantly and it became no longer possible to continue to privately fund the scheme; hence the creation of HRH.
  • We have built a great reputation for our sympathetic approach which allows the horses to adjust and develop before moving on to new vocations.
  • Once a horse is ready to move on it is carefully matched with a prospective new home to ensure a happy outcome.

Horses come to us for many different reasons be they financial, owners having a change in circumstances, horses unsuitable for current owner or simply an older equine looking for a quieter life.  At HRH we believe in giving all equines a second chance and we work with them closely to enable them to find a new life with a new carer/owner.

The rehoming process involves visits to new homes before and after a horse is relocated. It is therefore not possible to extend the rehoming process outside of a two and a half hour driving radius of the centre which is based near Tenbury Wells in Worcestershire.

Bardet-Biedl Syndrome UK is the only registered charity supporting people with Bardet-Biedl Syndrome, their families and carers. The aims of the Charity, according to its constitution, are: to preserve and protect the health and promote the welfare of persons living with BBS, and to advance the education of the medical and educational professionals and the general public on the subject of BBS.

For information regarding the clinical features of BBS, click here for our information booklets

All members of the Management Committee are volunteers. They have children with BBS or have the syndrome themselves, and they willingly give up their time to provide support, raise funds and generally do as much as they can to keep the Charity moving forwards.

The Charity produces newsletters,  conference reports, holds an annual family conference, and is an integral member of the specially commissioned multi-disciplinary BBS Clinics. Awareness of the Syndrome has grown massively as a result and the Charity now supports over 500 families and communicates with over 130 professionals involved in their care.

There are no membership fees and no charges are made for information – the work of the Charity relies entirely on donations.
