Event description: In 2016 we became one of six venues nationally to take part in the ‘A Life More Ordinary’ project, spearheaded by The Dukes Theatre in Lancaster to join with their aim and ethos to:

‘GIVE PEOPLE LIVING WITH DEMENTIA AND MEMORY LOSS MORE CHOICE, MORE CONTROL AND GREATER ACCESS TO LEISURE AND CULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES’
Beginning with our cinema, we were able to offer a relaxed screening environment that enabled both carers and those living with dementia a space to connect with others, feel comfortable and contribute to the programming of our dementia-friendly cinema screenings. Staff at these events have taken part in a dementia awareness session and we are a proud member of the Dementia Action Alliance – dedicating ourselves to take actions to provide and maintain a dementia-friendly organisation and venue for the long-term.

A year on from our first cinema events we are now proud to be able to offer two more activities as part of the A Life More Ordinary programme; ‘Moving to the Rhythm’ and ‘Songs for You’. Delivered by specially trained music and movement experts, these activities again offer a space for reminiscence, socialising and, most importantly, having fun.

Rhythm and Movement sessions led by Rachel Liggitt will be mostly seated. Rachel will lead participants through a series of simple movements that will support well-being, improve mobility and responsiveness, connect people and stimulate the senses.

These sessions commence at 2 pm and and have FREE entry. (Although donations are encouraged.)
