Shropshire’s Red Cross Society is moving to new headquarters after more than 40 years atSutton Lodge Betton Street, Shrewsbury.
So why and where are they relocating to? By Monday 22nd April all 23 members of staff, together with their valuable volunteers will have moved into a new building onBattlefieldEnterprisePark,Shrewsbury and the reasons for this are many.
The Red Cross has been based at Sutton Lodge since the 1940’s at a site that lies within the Belle Vue Conservation area, and used to be used as a children’s home until the 1940’s, so you can imagine, the layout has been like a house. Two to four staff would be working in a room, for example the fund-raising office was always referred to as being the “upstairs side bedroom” Now developers want to transform the historic building into two new semi-detached homes.
As Emma Croall fromShropshire’s Red Cross said “Being on a BusinessParkwill give us new opportunities for promoting our work to our new neighbours and also for our visitors to be coming to a building not on a busy residential street. We will miss the character of Sutton Lodge as well as supporting the local businesses by buying refreshments and the beautiful features here with its bell tower and cellars but we have to move on”
The Red Cross co-ordinates all its country services from its Shrewsbury Headquarters including first aid training and emergency response.
The charities move takes place before Red Cross Week which runs from May 5th to May 11th this year. You are invited to have a look at their new offices by joining them for a fund-raising Coffee Morning on May 1st (Details available soon)
We at Shropshire Disability Network are grateful to the support The Red Cross give us at our quarterly meetings by attending, passing on information and we have used their services on a number of occasions when we have held Big Debates, Fundraising events etc. We wish them well in there move and look forward to our continued relationship.
