Our aim is to break the taboo of living life with a bladder or bowel dysfunction, diversion or condition, raise awareness and most importantly, help people.

With a staggering 14 million people a year in the UK suffering from bladder and bowel conditions at any one time, our support network has become a vital lifeline to many, supporting them in achieving their goals and aspirations.

Whether you’re looking for information about a particular condition, the treatment options available, or just simply want to chat with others who have shared a similar experience to you then you can do so here.

The Bladder and Bowel Community (B&BC) is the UK wide service for people with bladder and bowel control problems.  B&BC provides information and support services, including a confidential helpline, for anyone affected by these conditions as well as their families, carers and healthcare professionals.

B&BC was officially formed in June 2008 and incorporates the objectives and missions of Incontact (National Action on Incontinence formed in 1989) and the Continence Foundation, which closed in May 2008.

With an estimated 14 million people in the UK with a bladder control problem and 6.5 million with a bowel control problem that is bothersome, our work is vital if we are to change the way in which patients are helped and supported.

Our Vision and Aims

Our mission is to inspire change and create opportunities to enable people with bladder and bowel control problems to have a voice and equal choice.

  • We aim to:- Raise awareness of bladder and bowel control problems amongst the general public and healthcare professionals.
  • Give access to information and support regarding the treatments, products and services for people with these conditions.

Ultimately we will work towards making a real difference to the lives of those affected by bladder and bowel control problems and deliver the kind of services that will meet the needs of those people affected by these issues

We believe in listening to the needs of people affected by bladder and bowel problems and provides advice and support to patients by means of the helpline, supported by specialist continence nurses and continence physiotherapists.

B&BC works in partnership with professional organisations in the field to ensure that everyone who needs help and support gets free access to all the services that are available. We also provides information and support regarding treatments, products and clinical services so that people with these conditions are then able to make an educated and informed choice about their care.

B&BC works with researchers to improve treatments and design innovative products for bladder and bowel disorders. We speak on behalf of those affected and those close to them in order to influence policy makers and service providers in both the private and public sectors.

B&BC also works closely with healthcare professionals, providing information and support materials for patients to improve standards of management and care. We believe all patients should get effective modern help, which will enable them to enjoy a greater quality of life.
