Event description: Our health can be affected by many things, even worries and concerns that may seem nothing to do with an illness or health problem. These might be for emotional problems, such as stress from caring for someone, social problems such as loneliness or practical problems such as financial worries or struggling with your lifestyle. All can have a long-term impact on our health but can’t be solved through medical or clinical treatment. Our communities provide lots of different types of support and activities that can help with these concerns, but people may struggle to recognize what would work for them.
Social prescribing enables GPs, and others to refer people to local community groups and services that offer different types of support and activities. Bishop’s Castle is one of the first communities in Shropshire to take part in the local Healthy Lives Social Prescribing Programme.
Our Healthy Lives Social Prescribing Event will enable to you:
- Find out more about the Healthy Lives Social prescribing programme in Shropshire, involving GP Practices, CCG, Shropshire Council Public Health, Adult Social Care, Housing, Fire & Rescue services, the voluntary and community sector and a wide range of other services
- Learn about the progress of the Healthy Lives Social Prescribing programme at Bishop’s Castle Medical Practice. This is a non-clinical programme started in 2018 to help patients improve their health and wellbeing. It includes support from an advisor and a structured referral pathway in to local community activities, groups and services. Dr Adrian Penney will talk about the value of community activities to people’s health.
- • Discuss the needs of local voluntary and community groups and projects in Bishop’s Castle and surrounding areas and consider creating a local supported network. A local ‘community connectors’ network can give local groups the opportunity to share information, details of services, help identify any gaps in provision and work together to meet the needs of local people.
