Axis has been counselling survivors of childhood sexual abuse and sexual trauma for more than 20 years. We are one of the most experienced and long-established services in the UK and have helped more than 12,000 people over the years.
All our counsellors are specially trained to understand and help you overcome the trauma you have suffered. Your counsellor will listen to and believe you, and help you explore issues which you have previously ignored or buried subconsciously. They will help you to set out a new path for yourself and begin to build a new future.
We have a choice of male or female counsellors and we take great care in making sure that you feel comfortable with them so you are able to tell your story and move on with your life. If you feel unable to build a relationship with your counsellor for whatever reason (sometimes it may be something as simple as they may have a physical resemblance which reminds you of your abuser, or you know you respond better to a particular type of approach) we are happy to offer you another counsellor.
All our counsellors are members of the BACP – British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have undergone specialist in-house training which draws on the wealth of experience Axis has gained over the last 20 years .
We aim to provide a comprehensive, confidential, flexible and high quality counselling service to those in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin who have suffered childhood sexual, physical or emotional abuse, rape or sexual violence.
We want to help you overcome the effects of your past trauma, and understand how this has affected you emotionally, leading to the thoughts, feelings and actions you have today. We will help you shift your focus from being a victim to being a survivor who now takes control of your life.
We aim to provide practical support too, if requested, through our ISVA service with advice, advocacy, criminal justice guidance, and practical assistance to victims of sexual assault and violation.
Our approach to counselling is tailored to the individual – letting the client have control, set goals and work at his/her own pace.
