Disability Awareness Day is a pan disability event which promotes a can do culture focusing on what disabled people can do throughout life and work. The show has three main aims:

  • To highlight what statutory, private or voluntary services are available to enable disabled people to stay independent.
  • To promote equipment and aids that could maintain or improve independence, not just what is offered by statutory service providers, we want everyone to see the best and/or latest designs
  • To provide an opportunity to showcase what disabled people can do, in the field of Sport, Arts and Entertainment

As well as fulfilling all these aims every year the show also gives everyone who comes a really good day out filled with interest, fun and entertainment!

Entry to the show ground is completely FREE and so is the programme. The DAD Launch event held on Saturday 9th July in Warrington Town Centre kicks off eleven complimentary events held during the week prior to the big day.

Event description: This screening is taking place as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

In celebration of Jack Nicholson’s 80th birthday, the BFI will re-release the legendary, multi-Oscar-winning drama One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest in cinemas UK-wide.

Nicholson’s unforgettable performance as the ingenious, heroic free spirit RP ‘Mac’ McMurphy, who leads an uprising in the men’s ward of a mental hospital run by callous Nurse Rached (Louise Fletcher), won him his first best actor Oscar.

Adapted from Ken Kesey’s bestselling 1962 novel, directed by Milos Forman (Amadeus, Man on the Moon) and produced by Saul Zaentz (Amadeus, The English Patient) and Michael Douglas (his first producer role), One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest was only the second film ever to win the ‘big five’ Oscars. It also won six BAFTAs and six Golden Globes.

The brilliant supporting cast of hospital patients, who interacted together throughout the story, were selected from over 100 actors after multiple auditions. Mostly unknown at the time, they included Danny DeVito – in his first major role – as Martini, Brad Dourif (Billy Bibbit), who has had a hugely successful stage and screen career ever since, Christopher Lloyd (future star of the Back to the Future trilogy) in his first film role and the Native American painter Will Sampson as Chief Bromden.

Booking Information:

Adults £7, Children Under 16 £5. All bookings have an additional booking fee. You can book on-line, by telephone or visting the cinema in person.
