Event description: Shrewsbury Town in the Community will be holding 3 tasters sessions of Powerchair Football.

They will take place at Shrewsbury Sports village on the following dates between 5 pm & 6 pm:

  • Monday 6th June
  • Monday 13th June
  • Monday 20th June

Please note: Powerchairs will not be provided but we will provide the attachments to go onto the powerchair.

These taster sessions are FREE, however when sessions start in August, there will be a charge of £3.50 per session. These sessions will take place on a Monday at Shrewsbury Sports village between 5 pm & 6 pm.

Information Service: 

A team of trained Information Officers provide clear & balanced information on a wide range of issues relating to Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD). This service is available to everyone with IBD & is accessible by telephone or email.

Personal Grant Fund:

Applications for an individual grant can be made for a need which arises as a result of having IBD. For full details please go to our website or call our Information Service.

Disability Benefits Service:

Opportunity to speak to a trained volunteer on the telephone re Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independent Payment (PIP) or Attendance Allowance (AA)

Parent to Parent:

A free , confidential telephone service provides parents of children with IBD, up to the age of 21, the opportunity to talk to one of our trained parent volunteers. Call the Information Line.

Crohn’s and Colitis Support:

This is a confidential, supportive service which is provided by trained volunteers and us available to anyone affected by IBD. Contacts offer emotional support for anyone who needs a safe place to talk. This support service is available 1 pm-3.30 pm Tuesday-Thursday and 6.30 pm-9 pm Monday to Friday except for Bank Holidays.-Telephone 0121 737 9931

There is no answerphone for Crohn’s and Colitis Support. If you are unable to get through, please try again during the opening hours.

Me and IBD:

Our “Me and IBD” discussion forum can be accessed via our website. This forum is for young people who are living with Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease. Registration is required before you use the forum & can be accessed on our website  under the heading “Shared Experiences”

Information about IBD:

We have over 30 information sheets on a wide range of topics ans seven longer booklets. These range from “Managing Bloating & Wind” to “Surgery for Crohn’s Disease” and “Employment and IBD”…”Food & IBD”,”Drugs Used in IBD” and many more.

Local Support Group: There is a Shropshire & Mid Wales Support Group which can be found on our A-Z Useful Organisations.

Shrewsbury Town in the Community is a registered Charity. Our aim is to make a positive difference for everyone through sport & learning. We do this by providing safe & enjoyable activities that will be fun for people of all ages & abilities whilst ensuring all sessions are accessible & delivered to the highest standards. 

STITC is a community development programme that is supported by Shrewsbury Town Football Club. STFC is very community minded & we know the positive impact we are having in the community & will continually look to develop & expand our reach. Shrewsbury Town in the Community have four main themes governed by the Football League Trust & they are Sports, Participation, Education, Health & Social Inclusion. STiC works across the whole county of Shropshire.

Activities include:

  • DS Football
  • CP Football
  • Blind Football (having teamed uo with the Royal National College for the Blind) we now offer Blind Awareness workshops across Shropshire.
  • All-In Short Breaks specifically for children with disabilities & additional needs (5-14 years)
  • Walking Football (over 55’s) Shrewsbury
  • Walking Football-Ludlow Stadium
  • Down Memory Lane (for people who have Dementia)
  • Powerchair Football 

Our shrewsability session runs on a Monday evening where we have:

  • Under 12 and 12+ down syndrome sessions.
  • Cerebral palsy under 12 and 12+ sessions.
  • Amputee – open age.
  • Power chair – open age.

These sessions take place at Shrewsbury sports village.

We also have sessions on a Friday.

  • Short brakes session at Shrewsbury Towns Community Football Hub.
  • Pan 12+ session at Shrewsbury towns community football hub.
  • Pan under 12 football session at Ludlow town football club.

Touch 2 See (T2S) Book Club

Touch 2 See is a new club being launched at the Lantern Shrewsbury which will be invaluable especially to those people with visual impairment. Note the date -Monday 6th June, 10.30 am to 12 noon at the Lantern, Meadow Farm Drive, Shrewsbury SY4 1NG as that is when this FREE club starts.

T2S Book club uses resource packs created by award winning charity Living Paintings. They make special versions of pictures with raised surfaces (called thermoforms) that come to life when fingers feel them. A sound recording directs the fingers over the raised image, describing the features of the picture & telling the stories of the image.

This is a good opportunity to meet new people & make new friends. The club is free & open to all, so please come along. Tell your friends & anyone who may be interested.

Event description: This is a day of advice & information that is being hosted by Shropshire RCC.

The days begins at 10 am when there will be a number of short talks on topics like:

  • Falls Prevention.
  • Avoiding Scams.
  • Fire Safety

There will also be exercise taster sessions; and there will be various exhibitions from charities & support groups.

The day finishes at 1 pm with a FREE lunch. During the afternoon the Wise & Well Team will carry out Functional Fitness & MOT assessments but for these you must book before the event. THIS IS NOT A DROP IN EVENT! The assessments will test performance of everyday tasks & compare them to established age-group averages.
