BDA Survey closes 27th November 2015!

With only 100 replies & just two days to go until this survey closes your participation would be greatly appreciated.

“The Bowls Development Alliance launched the first nationwide survey regarding disabled participation in bowls to develop a greater understanding of the current and future opportunities that exist for disabled bowlers and which clubs currently have disabled bowlers using their facilities. The 2014 survey saw 243 clubs respond which resulting in valuable insight that proved crucial when developing the National Disability Strategic Action Plan as well as in guiding clubs and organisations to create more opportunities for disabled bowlers to take part in our sport.

Due to the success of the 2014 Survey, the BDA announced on the 2nd August the launch of the 2015 National Disability Survey which is now open for responses via hard copy fromwww.playbowls.org or electronically via https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NationalDisabilitySurvey2015 until Friday, 27th November, 2015.

Those taking part in the survey have an opportunity to enter a prize draw where the winner will receive a blue Ultraglide DX Bowls Bag, courtesy of AeroBowls.”

Audio Aids
Sennheiser Infra Red enhanced hearing headsets are available in the Old Market Hall to amplify sound for hard of hearing patrons. They can be worn with or without a hearing aid.

What are Caption Subtitles?
Deaf or hearing impaired customers who cannot use our audio aids because of incompatibility with their hearing aid, or due to a greater level of hearing loss, may rely on subtitling to let them ‘hear’ the film dialogue (in the same way hearing customers rely on subtitles to understand a foreign language film).

These Caption Subtitles provide much more information than “normal” English subtitles. They also inform the cinema goer when something is sung rather then spoken, when significant music is happening, often providing the lyrics, or of significant sound effects (eg phone rings, doorbell chimes, etc) – especially those taking place off screen.

Booking Information:

If you have a disability you are entitled to receive 50% discount off full price seats. Should you need the service of a companion, their ticket is also half price. Proof of eligibility will be required. Patrons must state discounts and produce proof of eligibility at the time of booking, as discounts cannot be applied retrospectively.

Matinee and early evening showings:

Adults: £7.50
Concessions: £6

  • What exactly is an Urgent Care Centre? And will we get one if we don’t have any beds in Oswestry?
  • What is happening about Community Fit?
  • We have two very senior representatives from NHS Future Fit coming over to tell us what the current situation is.

They will be here to answer our questions and address our concerns. So please be there to ask them.

The Movement Centre is a UK charity and specialist treatment centre. We are dedicated to supporting children and their families living with movement disabilities.

We have a small but dedicated team who work closely with families. We provide a specialist therapy called Targeted Training to help children gain movement control. Targeted Training therapy can enable children to develop new skills and become far more independent.  This can have a huge impact on their life. It can also make a big difference to the lives of their family and friends.

Through a course of Targeted Training therapy children can gain head control, so they can interact with their family; it can help children develop the skills to sit unaided, so that they can play with their friends. For some children it can enable them to walk, which means they can be far more independent!

Our clinical team are specialists in Targeted Training therapy, which has been developed at The Movement Centre over the last 22 years. This means that they have a real understanding of the challenges families face and how best we may be able to support them.

Targeted Training can help improve movement and independence for children with various degrees of disability. Targeted Training mimics the natural development of control in newborn infants, while the child is up against gravity; an approach not adopted by any other centre.  During the 9 – 12 month course of Targeted Training a specially designed standing frame is used. Each frame is tailored and adjusted to the child’s specific requirements. The frame goes home with the child so they can repeat their exercises daily, with regular 8 week reviews at the centre.

Please contact us or visit our website to find out about referrals to The Movement Centre and for more information about Targeted Training therapy.

Shropshire Deaf & Hard of Hearing Forum

Start Date:
3rd February 2016

End Date:
3rd February 2016

Start Time:
2 pm

End Time:

Event title: Shropshire Deaf & Hard of Hearing Forum
Venue: Trinity Centre, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury SY3 9HF

Email: hugh.battersby@gmail.com
Telephone: 01691-624669
Event description: We would be pleased if you would join us for our first meeting of 2016.

We have guest speakers to welcome:

  • Wendy Southall, lead commissioner for, inter alia, audiology services at Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group, will talk to us about future arrangements for the provision of hearing aids, especially under the Any Qualified Provider scheme. This really is a subject of vital interest to all of us. Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin CCGs have always been extremely helpful and cooperative, and fund an excellent audiology service at the two hospitals, but there are serious financial problems at the moment. We all need to attend, to show our interest and to make clear the fact that untreated deafness makes people miserably lonely and prone to far more serious – and expensive – problems, not the least being dementia.
  • Lyndon Thomas, a Hearing Link volunteer, will explain how the Text Relay System works.
  • Darren Wilkins, Head of Paediatric Audiology Services at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust will talk about their services for children and young people.
