Local Area SEND Consultation-open until 4th January 2016

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission have recently launched their consultation on the new Local Area SEND inspections, which will measure local areas’ effectiveness in identifying and meeting the needs of children and young people who are disabled and have special educational needs.

These inspections will consider the effectiveness of systems across health, education and social care for the 0-25 age group. Closing date for comments is the 4th January 2016.

Empathy for Special Children-Survey

Empathy for special children has been delivering social opportunities & support to families growing up with High Functioning Autism & associated additional needs in Craven Arms and Oswestry for 5 years now and this service is even more in demand now.

Event description: Our pantomime this year runs from Tuesday 8th December 2015 to Sunday 3rd January 2016. On Wednesday 30th December 2015 at 6.30 pm the performance of Snow White will have British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters enabling those with sensory impairment to enjoy this years pantomime.

This much loved fairy tale of evil and vanity in battle with youth and innocent beauty sees a host of colourful characters brought to life as we discover what can go wrong with a bite of a poisonous apple! 
Will Snow White avoid the old lady offering an apple, or will we be relying on true love’s kiss to seal our happy every after ending?

FA Disability Talent Identification Programme 2015/16 -Disability Provision with Shrewsbury Town in the Community

Shropshire Football Association are pleased to announce that Shrewsbury Town In The Community have been awarded a licence by The FA to host the new Talent Identification Programme for disabled young players for the 2015/ 16 season.

TIPs will commence with an England Talent Day before leading into a six week prescriptive player assessment/signposting period.England Talent Day is an integral part of The FA’s new Disability Talent Pathway, identifying young players aged between 12-16 years old for 2015/16 season.

Event description: Last year Shrewsbury Town In The Community announced they had been awarded a licence by The FA to host the new Talent Identification Programme for disabled young players for the 2015/ 16 season.
FA Talent Identification Programmes (TIPs) will be utilised as environments to identify and signpost players to the ‘right’ environment at that point in time (they will run on a yearly basis to ensure that players can be viewed annually and kept in the Talent System). TIPs will commence with an England Talent Day before leading into a six week prescriptive player assessment/signposting period.

England Talent Day is an integral part of The FA’s new Disability Talent Pathway, identifying young players aged between 12-16 years old for 2015/16 season and is one of 35 which will be taking place. The programme is quality assured to support the development of young talented disabled players, offering a clear pathway.

The new pathway aims to recruit players that can progress to FA Regional Talent Centres, FA Emerging Talent Programme, England Development Squads and England Elite Squads as highlighted within The FA’s Disability Player Pathway and as shown below:

  • Learning Disability
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Partially Sighted
  • Blind
  • Deaf (Male and Female)
  • Amputee

Short Breaks Service: Residential stays at the Willow

Shropshire Council together with Action for Children (AFC), are reviewing one of the Short Break services we commission. The service provides residential overnight stays for children with special educational needs and or a disability.

This consultation starts on 6th October 2015 & ends on 20th November 2015. This is your opportunity to have your say on the future of the residential stay service at The Willows for Children & Young People with special educational needs and/or disability.

Event description: Shropshire RCC is calling on people in Shropshire to swot up on switching energy supplier and, where possible, help an older relative or neighbour find a better deal. Although called “2015 Big Energy Week”, see below as there are many events taking place between 26th October through to 12th November.

As part of Big Energy Saving Week – a joint campaign with Energy Saving Trust, the Department of Energy and Climate Change and Citizens Advice., Shropshire RCC is encouraging people to visit BeAnEnergyShopper.com to find out how much they could save by switching energy suppliers. Off Gas customers can save by joining our Community Fuel Buying Scheme.

The aim is to help people find the cheapest deal before temperatures really start to drop. Help and information is available online, over the phone, or by coming along to one of our Big Energy Saving Week events.

Event description: Our AGM which is also an opening meeting will include this very important subject-The SEND Reforms – Are Education, Health and Care Plan working for Shropshire?

Our Key note speaker will be Patrick Agius from the SEN and Disability Unit at the Department For Education. Patrick has considerable experience of the implementation of the reforms and more recently has been specifically involved in the transfer of Statements to EHCPs. He has worked closely with the National Network of Parent Carer Forums, supporting their work on the reforms for the past two years.

There will be Two workshops will during the day;

  • How was the EHCP for you?
  • Transition into Adulthood; Moving forward?

During these workshops there will be an update on the current EHCP and transition to adulthood process in Shropshire and an opportunity to provide feedback which will inform the future development of the local EHCP and transition processes.
