VCSA Recession Survey 2013

Start Date:
22nd October 2013

End Date:
8th November 2013

Start Time:
00.01 am

End Time:
12:01

For the past few years the VCSA have asked their members to participate in a survey to measure how your organisation or group has been affected by the current financial climate.

This years’ survey has been improved and slightly extended to ensure we capture as much information and detail as possible and cover a broader range of issues.

We have benchmarked our survey questions against national research in order to compare our results with out of county areas.

The recession survey is an important tool, particularly when working with Shropshire Council’s elected members to communicate the “state of the sector” and raise awareness of community issues and concerns.

It is vital that as many members as possible complete the survey as this will ensure the validity of the results.

To complete the survey online, please follow this link – www.surveymonkey.com/s/VCSARecession2013

The survey will close on Friday 8th November.

If you require a paper copy, please email vcsassembly@shropshire.gov.uk with your name and address and we will put a copy in the post as soon as possible.

Carers Support Group – Now Offers Respite!

HEADWAY SHROPSHIRE LAUNCHES:

Carers Support Group – Now Offers Respite!

Headway Shropshire have informed us they have now decided to offer respite care for their Carers Support Group. This is to make the group more accessible to all Carers and so that nobody is excluded as a result of their caring roles. This Carers Group started in February this year and has been a great source of support, information sharing and humour! So starting in October they can provide 1.5 hours respite for the ‘cared for’ while their Carers attend the group. They hope this could provide all attendees a fun and relaxing evening out but most importantly an opportunity to share and talk about any issues.

Do you care for someone who has had an ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) from a stroke, accident, fall, tumour or illness?

The group is held on a monthly basis at Headway House in Shrewsbury from 6pm until 7.30pm on the following dates in 2013:

  • Monday 28th October 2013
  • Wednesday 20th November 2013
  • Thursday 5th December 2013

Dates for 2014 will be advertised early next year.

All clients who are already accessing Headway services and have had an assessment will be able to attend. However, for new clients who have not already had an assessment, one will need to be completed. The group is also subject to availability as they must ensure people are properly looked after when in our care.

So what is on offer? A quiet, confidential place where the right to privacy is respected. they offer practical help, advice and information and the opportunity to meet others in a similar position. Guest speakers which are of interest to attendees are also be invited along. A great guest speaker has been arranged for the November meeting and this is Mandy Hughes – Carers Hospital Link Worker based in RSH which will be a particularly interesting subject for our Carers to hear about.

Feel free to come along, to talk and share your thoughts. If you do not want to share that is fine, as respect for your right to quiet and privacy. Is important. Please talk to Donna for further information or to inform her if you would like to take part.

Community Alcohol Partnership urges people to have their say about underage drinking in their area

Take part in the survey here.

Shropshire’s Community Alcohol Partnership (Shrop-CAP) is urging residents in Shropshire to give their views on underage drinking in their area by completing a short survey.

The survey which had now been extended till the end of October, has been set up to help identify and address those area’s affected by the impact associated with underage drinking, such as anti-social behavior, crime and health problems.

Shrop-CAP is a multi-agency partnership set up to oversee a scheme to reduce the consequences of underage drinking thanks to funding of £90,000, over two years (£45,000 per year), through the Department of Communities and Local Government. The Partnership (Shrop-CAP) comprises of Shropshire’s Drug and Alcohol Action Team, West Mercia Police, and Shropshire Council’s positive activities and trading standards teams.

The partnership is working on many initiatives, including tackling proxy purchasing, where over 18s purchase alcohol and supply it to young people who are under 18; providing alcohol awareness and information to communities; and working with young people on developing positive activities. Shrop-CAP also works with local traders to ensure they are fully aware of the possible consequences of

Five local Community Alcohol Partnership groups to address the specific issues in their area

  • Bridgnorth (B-CAP)
  • Whitchurch (W-CAP)
  • Ludlow (L-CAP)
  • Minsterley / Pontesbury (M&P-CAP)
  • Oswestry (Os-CAP),

To take part in the survey, go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ShropCAPsurvey. The survey will only take around 10 minutes.
