So book your place NOW by using our form under the “About Us” tab on this website. Click on “open meetings” and scroll to the bottom and complete the short form. Or send an email to James our interim Secretary at home.base@virgin.net

We have two guest speakers:

Colin Smith CBE from the DWP: Colin will talk about Welfare Reforms. DLA to PiPs by bringing us the latest updates. How could it affect you?

And

Ann Johnston-Support Service, Manager from Shropshire Housing Alliance will speak about changes to Housing Benefit and how they could impact on you. ie Renting out a spare room.

SDN offers the opportunity to people to bring along a stand and information about what they do. This brings in a little funding that helps pay for meeting costs. We are looking forward to welcoming Nicola Clarke Neurological Occupational Therapist & Clare Godfrey Speech & Language Therapist and thank them for taking up this opportunity. They will also give us a 5 minute brief on what they do & tell us about their Information/Stand they have brought along. You will get an opportunity to talk to Nicola and Clare during the interval.

Sgt David Braid of West Mercia Police will also be bringing us an update us on Hate Crime/Safer Shropshire.

We will also inform you about what we have been up to the last 3 months, including telling you about the revamp of our website which is very exciting. We will look forward to the next few months and let you know what we are doing and have several areas where we need your help and support.

We will have our usual raffle. Tickets are £1 a strip. There will be opportunity to sponsor Vic Davies who will be running the Shrewsbury Marathon for us on Sunday 23rd June.

So how do we spend your money!

We have been aware for over 2 years of problems with sound at our meetings. Questions, answers and speakers have not always been heard as sound varies at different venues/areas of buildings and voices vary in tone and pitch. We appreciate your comments and have listened to you. We know there has been a big need to address this, so we have purchased a sound system with roving mic. We will be using this for the first time at this meeting. It will be trial and error and we still want your comments please.

Those who receive “Your Voice” by post will note it is now stapled! We felt a wise investment was a ergonomic long armed stapler. We have already seen an improvement when handing out copies at our Information Stands.

Many of you will also have the first opportunity to see the Information Stands we purchased last September. These have been a big bonus to us ie at RAF Shawbury, Quarterly Meetings, See/Hear Exhibition and will be used a lot. We also took co

mments on board about display of our leaflets so now have a selection of Perspex stands to use. This has made a huge difference to displaying our literature.

At our September meeting we will present our Annual Accounts, but if anyone wants to ask questions prior to that, please do as the records are always available. We can now confirm the details as:

Wednesday 11th September 2013 10.30 am for 11 am at Mears, Shropshire Home Services, Unit 3, Hartley Business Centre, Monkmoor Road, Shrewsbury SY3 5ST

Volunteer a few hours of your time to make Telford mobility event one of the best

30 May 2013 – A national charity seeks volunteers to join a ‘meet and greet’ team welcoming visitors to the UK’s premier mobility and independent lifestyle event that is taking place for the first time in Telford.

Thousands of visitors from right across the UK, Europe and beyond are expected at the Mobility Roadshow from Thursday 27th to Saturday 29th June at the Telford International Centre. This is the 30th anniversary celebration of the Roadshow, which brings together all the latest technology, gizmos and gadgets to help disabled and older people who need a little help to get around and be more independent.

Volunteers will join the team of Roadshow Rangers to meet and greet visitors, hand out show guides and direct visitors from the car parks to the Telford International Centre.

Roadshow Rangers are being recruited for full or half day shifts on any or all of the three days on behalf of the Mobility Roadshow by Telford and Wrekin Volunteer Centre. Please contact the Centre on 01952 567 800 to find out more.

“Please help us if you can. Even if you can donate only half a day of your time you will be making a huge contribution in helping our visitors to find what they came to see; products and service that could change their lives!,” said Jacqui Jones, chief executive of Mobility Choice, the charity that organises the show. “We want to make Telford a memorable Mobility Roadshow year for all our visitors.”
