Transport – Community Transport for Telford and Wrekin Area

Telford Community Transport ceased trading on 26th April 2013.

The community transport service was launched in this form in 2000 and has since provided transport for hundreds of pensioners and vulnerable people across the borough. All of the scheme’s minibuses were wheelchair accessible and easily accessible for people who struggled with steps.

“We receive no support, funding or subsidies of any kind and can no longer afford to subsidise the service ourselves”.

Royal Voluntary Service volunteers may help with:

  • mobility services so older people can still get out and about in their community. Tel: 01743 240271.
  • undertake some 90,000 journeys on behalf of older people. These may be trips to and from hospital or to a GP appointment. Equally, these may be trips to the shops or into town journeys that enrich lives and really add to the pleasure of day-to-day living. Re Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. Tel: 01743 240271.
  • Visits to hospital and the GP surgery can be stressful so the help and support of a Royal Voluntary Service volunteer often proves invaluable. Our volunteers accompany older people, arrange care for pets and are there in the first few weeks following a hospital visits. Royal Voluntary Service volunteers will also collect prescriptions and help cook meals. Local service covering: Bridgnorth, North Shropshire, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Atcham, South Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin (Shropshire) To apply and access this Call: 0845 608 0122

POhWER currently provides two statutory advocacy services in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Go to this page: https://www.pohwer.net/shropshire

The Independent Complaints Advocacy Service (ICAS) offers support and information to anyone wanting to complain about NHS care or treatment recieved. POhWER works to support individuals to share experiences with the NHS so that improvements can be made were necessary.

Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCA) – When someone cannot ask for an advocate themselves, because they do not have the capacity to do so due, for example, to brain injury, disability or illness, it does not mean that their views and wishes should not be taken into account.

People over the age of 16 who lack capacity, and do not have an appropriate family member or friend to represent their views, are legally entitled to an independent mental capacity advocate (if decisions are being made about serious medical treatment or a change of accommodation).  In some cases, where the person is vulnerable, they can have an advocate even if they do have family or friends.

Our independent mental capacity advocates gather information about individuals referred to our service to help decision makers, such as doctors, to reach ‘best interest’ decisions about elements of their treatment and care.
