Bereavement? New service helps you to notify authorities to ease your load

Shropshire council launch a new service called Tell Us Once  on 1 December 2011 which should help those coping with the loss of a loved one.

Shropshire Council has teamed up with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to deliver a new service that will reduce stress and red tape when reporting a birth or death.  The Tell Us Once service will be launched on Thursday 1 December.

Tell Us Once, automatically notifies relevant government departments and service authorities of a family’s birth or bereavement. For someone who has experienced a bereavement or birth there are lots of things that need to be done. One of these things is contacting the government departments and local council services that need to be told about the birth or death. Until now, these departments needed to be contacted individually.

Telephone Shropshire Council on  0345 678 9016  for more details.

We are a volunteer organisation, run by hearing impaired people.

We hold three public forum meetings each year, focusing on issues related to hearing impairment. These meetings are open to anyone who has a hearing impairment, their families and anyone else who is interested.  We have interesting speakers and there is an opportunity for discussion over coffee and tea. We have a BSL interpreter at all forums, together with a loop system operating for hearing aid users. The venues we use all have parking and disabled facilities.

We run a Deaf Aware stall which is taken to various venues around the county. The stall has information boards and leaflets to give away. It is usually staffed by hearing impaired volunteers who have first hand experience of the problems faced.

We are the official body representing Deaf and hearing impaired people in consultations with the NHS and the Unitary Councils in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.
