On 1st July 2015 The trustees of FibroAction and FMA UK announced the merger of the two organisations in to a new entity, Fibromyalgia Action UK.

Our is to help and support people affected by fibromyalgia and raise much needed awareness of this chronic condition of widespread pain and fatigue.

The FMA is a registered charity administered by unpaid volunteers. The majority of volunteers are also fibromyalgia sufferers who work extremely hard, despite their condition, in order to forward the cause of fibromyalgia.

FMA was established in order to provide information and support to sufferers and their families. In addition, the Association provides medical information for professionals and operates a national helpline.

In order to raise awareness of Fibromyalgia, an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) has been set up to bring greater awareness and education of the illness and related problems associated with the condition.

It also aims to encourage NHS and other funding for new research projects. At present there is very little research being carried out in the UK and sufferers are told there is no cure. We hope that will be a statement of the past.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition of widespread pain and profound fatigue. The pain tends to be felt as diffuse aching or burning, often described as head to toe. It may be worse at some times than at others.

It may also change location, usually becoming more severe in parts of the body that are used the most. The fatigue ranges from feeling tired, to the exhaustion of a flu-like illness. It may come and go and people can suddenly feel drained of all energy – as if someone just “pulled the plug”.

EQUIP (Education and Quality in Practice) was formed in 1996 by the amalgamation of the North Essex components of the Essex Medical Audit Advisory Group (MAAG) which had been in existence since 1990 and GP Education in Essex, which had been in existence since 1992.

Prior to April 1996, the organisation had worked across the whole of Essex, but with the division of Essex into North and South Health Authorities, EQUIP took the lead role in co-ordinating audit and education programmes in primary care in North Essex working within the NHS family.

In August 2017 EQUIP  was incorporated and is now Essex EQUIP Limited.

EQUIP aims to improve the quality of care in chronic diseases in general practice through education, anticipatory care and audit by developing and utilising all the skills within the practice team.

CCGs or practices can commission specific training ranging from accredited Health Care Assistant and Receptionist courses to specific clinical courses such as minor operations and anticoagulation courses through to employment law.
